After you pass

Pass Plus courses

Six hours that cover the driving your test never asked you to do.

In short

Pass Plus is a six module post test course covering town, all weather, night, rural, dual carriageway and motorway driving. There is no test at the end: your registered instructor signs off that you have completed the course to a satisfactory standard. Many insurers offer a discount for it. SMS Driving School offers Pass Plus across all 11 areas we cover. Call 07966 934232 for current pricing.

Why bother after you have passed?

Your practical test does not take you on a motorway, rarely takes you out at night, and cannot guarantee you bad weather. So it is entirely possible to hold a full licence having never driven in the conditions that account for a large share of new driver collisions.

Pass Plus fills those gaps deliberately, with an instructor beside you, before you meet them alone at 60mph in the dark on the A55.

The six modules

1

Town driving

Busy urban traffic, complex junctions, pedestrians and cyclists.

2

All weather driving

Rain, wind, fog and low sun, and how stopping distances change.

3

Night driving

Judging speed and distance in the dark, dealing with dazzle and unlit roads.

4

Rural roads

Country lanes, blind bends, farm traffic and hidden dips.

5

Dual carriageways

Joining and leaving at speed, lane discipline and overtaking safely.

6

Motorways

Slip roads, lane use, matching speed and reading traffic well ahead.

How it works locally

Our area is well suited to Pass Plus. The A55 gives straightforward access to dual carriageway and motorway work, the lanes inland from Dyserth and Meliden cover the rural module properly, and Rhyl and Prestatyn provide the town driving. The weather here tends to supply the all weather module without much planning.

The six hours can be spread across several sessions rather than crammed into one day, which generally works better for taking it in.
