SMS Driving School is a driving school based in Dyserth, Rhyl, Denbighshire, providing driving tuition across Denbighshire and the North Wales coast.

What we collect

We collect only what we need in order to respond to you and to teach you to drive.

When you contact us through this website

  • Your name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address, if you choose to give it
  • The town or area you are in
  • Whether you are interested in manual or automatic tuition
  • Anything you choose to write in the message field

When you become a pupil

  • Your address, so that we can collect and drop you off
  • Your provisional driving licence details, as required to provide tuition lawfully
  • A record of your lessons and progress
  • Payment records

When you use the website

  • Standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type and pages visited

We do not ask for your marital status, your date of birth beyond what a provisional licence requires, or any financial information through this website.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To answer your enquiry. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, namely responding to someone who has contacted us.
  • To provide driving tuition you have booked. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
  • To keep records of lessons and payments. Lawful basis: legal obligation and legitimate interests.
  • To keep the website working and secure. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with third parties for marketing. We will not add you to a marketing list simply because you enquired.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where it is necessary:

  • With the instructor who will be teaching you
  • With our website and email hosting providers, who process data on our behalf
  • With DVSA, where required in connection with your test
  • Where we are legally required to do so

Cookies

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Any cookies present are strictly necessary for the site to function. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become bookings are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted. Pupil records are kept for the duration of your tuition and for up to 6 years afterwards, which reflects the period during which we may need them for tax and accounting purposes.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it
  • Ask us to correct anything that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete it, where we do not need to keep it
  • Ask us to restrict or object to how we use it
  • Ask for your data in a portable format
